My Last Term with Only 2 Students

Book of Centuries work
It seems totally wild to type that but it is true... Julia will be joining us in the fall for Kindergarten!

We finished up Term 2 AND all Exams last week and I am proud of the girls and the work they have done. Term 2 was a step up in reading for Louisa and Kailyn is still managing a pretty full load. I am especially proud of her discipline in Latin and beginning a very daunting journey with Greek!
Here are some photo highlights from our term:

A rare and harmonious picture of what our Hymn & Folk singing time is like.

Attending a Piano Battle concert- making it a super fun evening.

Taking their chickens for a "walk."

After starting today, I know it will be a great term - it always is. We are studying Edvard Grieg as our composer and already the girls are fighting over who can play his music on the piano in their free time. It's absolutely wonderful for them to be exposed to such a variety of music. They have been taken with Chopin, Schubert, and Schumann lately and have been trying out their music. They have a greater respect for them after having tried to play their work but it doesn't discourage them - it only makes them keep practicing. If we had the room and space for two pianos, I would get another one in a heartbeat. :)

We are looking at the paintings of John William Waterhouse and our first painting today was, "The Lady of Shalott." Before I showed them, I reminded them not to say anything but just look at it. They could hardly contain themselves when I flipped it around for them to study. Kailyn memorized Tennyson's poem last year and they both knew right away who the painting was about. So fun.

The difficult things, in my mind, for the Term will be listening and understanding The Holy War by John Bunyan and Paradise Lost (I think I have 3 books scheduled). I am quite intimidated but I did buy a companion book that is supposed to help me understand Paradise Lost, thanks to a recommendation from a fellow AO mom. I have both of these books scheduled on Librivox and we will just take it one day at a time and see how it goes.

We are planning to memorize Romans 6:1-18 this term and am looking forward to it.

Louisa will be reading and finishing Ben Hur and I am excited for her to know the story. Louisa and I are also reading through parts of A Child's Geography of the World by Hillyer and it is fabulous.

We finished up our woodburning handicrafts and are going to move on to bookbinding! I know the girls will love this one. They are notebook-aholics and it is almost wrong of me to encourage them to actually make more notebooks (!) but I figure they can always give them as gifts.
