Science Picture Books for Kindergarten

We came across some pretty cool Nature Study/Science picture books that I read to Julia throughout this last Kindergarten year, and I thought I would share them here, as I am always on the lookout for good, living books. Here they are, in no particular order:

I thought both Bat Loves the Night and White Owl, Barn Owl were written in a perfectly engaging and narrative way - not just stating facts. I wish I could say the same for the others in this series, but it largely depends on the author... that being said, Nicola Davies gets a thumbs up for these two!

Gail Gibbons' books are not in narrative form, but my three youngest were pretty fascinated by these two space books. She does a good job (as usual) of making hard concepts easy to understand for the little people.

The drawings in Birds Build Nests are beautiful. It teaches about all the different kinds of bird nests that are made and where they place them. Very informative and sweet at the same time.

The Rainforest Grew All Around was purchased because Julia was curious about what a rainforest is and who lives there. This is not a narrative format but facts... however, the pictures are colorful and she has found it very interesting.

This has been a big hit with my three younger kids! It's written in poetic form, but manages to make the kids laugh. The illustrations are very colorful and they have very much enjoyed it.

We are pretty fascinated with birds around our house, so this was a great intro (for Julia) to John James Audubon.

This doesn't really count as a picture book, but we enjoyed it nonetheless, and the pictures are beautiful!

These books were read in addition to our Nature Lore books that we read in Kindergarten (Among the...Series by Clara Dillingham Pearson).
